5.2 Cabinet Finishes

Stain

Stain is a finish that applies penetrating dye to solid wood or wood veneer. It enhances the natural wood grain without covering it, only altering the color. Stained cabinets feature clear, layered textures, retaining the original wood feel with no obvious coating. Various wood tones are available to match many interior styles.

Painted

Painted finish involves spraying paint onto the cabinet surface and curing it via high-temperature baking. It is one of the most popular finishes in the cabinet market. Painted cabinets have a smooth, even surface with no visible wood grain, available in solid colors, matte, or high-gloss. Hundreds of custom colors are available to suit any design style.

UV Coated

UV coating is applied by spraying UV lacquer and instantly curing it with ultraviolet light. This finish has grown popular in recent years. UV-coated cabinets have high surface hardness, strong scratch resistance, and heat resistance. However, the cost is relatively high, with lower cost-performance compared to melamine and thermofoil, making it ideal for high-end projects.

Melamine

Melamine finish is created by hot-pressing melamine-impregnated paper (with wood, stone, or leather patterns) onto particleboard or MDF. It offers excellent cost-performance and highly realistic simulated textures, perfect for personalized kitchen designs.

Thermofoil

Thermofoil uses MDF as the base material, with a PVC film tightly bonded via vacuum hot-pressing. It requires a smooth base surface. Thermofoil cabinets have a fine, smooth surface available in wood grain, solid color, or matte finishes, and can support embossed textures – ideal for intricate cabinet designs.

5.3 Available Wood Materials

  • Solid Wood: Common options include oak, birch, rubber wood etc, they are always used for frame, door and drawers. Oak features clear grain, moderate hardness, and great cost-performance, making it the top choice for solid wood cabinets. It is eco-friendly, strong, durable, and suitable for high-budget commercial projects. Birch wood is the most used for the frame, door and drawers in our factory, high quality but affordable cost. Rubber wood is the most economical solid wood great for projects using.
  • Plywood: Also known as multi-layer solid wood board, it combines the look of solid wood with the stability of engineered wood, avoiding warping or cracking. It offers great stability, moisture resistance, and strength, ideal for mid-to-high budget commercial projects.
  • MDF: Medium Density Fiberboard, made from wood/plant fibers bonded with eco-friendly adhesive under high temperature and pressure. It is the most widely used base material for cabinet finishing.
  • Particleboard: Stable structure, compatible with melamine finishing. It is low-cost and easy to process, suitable for budget-limited projects.
